Keyboards

To assist you with some basic information, we have listed some common questions and answers.
Q: What is the difference between digital pianos and keyboards?
A: Digital pianos can have weighted keys with a hammer action touch to replicate the feel and response of a traditional acoustic piano. Some features include…
• Three functioning foot pedals
• Realistic piano tone
• 88 keys that play and feel like a piano
Keyboards have a lighter touch and portable models offer 61 keys, 76 keys or some larger models, full 88 keys. Traditionally keyboards will have numerous sounds, rhythm, and features as an entertainment instrument
Q: Which keyboard is better for a beginner?
A: Teachers have given different opinions on this question. We find that many times it boils down to cost! Portable keyboards can be less expensive to own and certainly will work to start with the basics. If you buy a 61 or 76 key version, it is possible to outgrow it as you become more advanced. Many piano teachers encourage students to start on 88 key pianos because their student takes a lesson on a full size piano and should practice on the same.
Q: Is there service concerns with keyboards?
A: Unlike acoustic pianos which require tuning and key regulation periodically, digital pianos and keyboards are permanently pre-tuned at the factory. The design technology of keyboards today has advanced and improved to where warranty coverage on better quality brands has been extended to 3, 4, 5 years. Certainly like any thing electronic, service at some point could be possible. At Northern Music Service, we service what we sell and have a complete service shop.
